JAMB Hands Over Documents to House Committee Amid 2025 UTME Probe

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided all necessary documents to the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, marking an important milestone in the ongoing investigation into the issues encountered during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The documents were submitted during a session at the National Assembly in Abuja. Hon. Oboku Oforji, the chairman of the committee, indicated that the inquiry follows a House resolution resulting from a motion of urgent public importance that was adopted on 15 May 2025.
The investigation aims to address the extensive problems reported during the 2025 UTME and to advocate for the establishment of at least one Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. Oforji further noted that the committee intends to evaluate JAMB’s budget implementation and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from 2023 onward, assess remittances made to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF), and review the board’s bank statements for the same timeframe. He emphasized that the initiative is not intended as a witch-hunt, but rather a constitutional responsibility of oversight.
The committee chairman expressed dissatisfaction regarding a previous incident on 29 October 2025, when JAMB officials, headed by Mr. Muftau Bello, left a session after being requested to introduce themselves. “We denounce this behavior. Ministries and agencies must not intimidate or discredit Parliament,” Oforji cautioned, referring to Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution. During the session, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede apologized for the officials’ behavior and distanced himself from their actions. He assured the committee that all requested documents had been submitted in full.
